Zombie challenge week 5

AKoE01Y
For challenge week 4, Team Emma (my team) came in 2nd.  That is 2 weeks of 1st and 2 weeks at 2nd…. we’re pretty damn great!
Challenge # 5

You unsteadily climb to your feet and shuffle toward the sounds. When you get to the end of the block you are excited to see several cars and motorcycles heading out of town. But that’s not really what gets you excited — it’s the pack of people you see following the procession of vehicles that’s got your stomach grumbling. They are like a juicy herd of cattle just waiting for you. You have no idea where they are all going but it doesn’t matter. You are so starving your stomach feels like it’s going to eat itself.

You stumble out onto the road, limping after the group. A discarded tire in the middle of the road almost trips you but you manage to jump over it, kicking your butt with both heels. The hop was a little too much for your decaying muscles and you find yourself sinking, lunging to one knee. But you push yourself back up to a standing position and continue limping toward the group.

Several people at the rear of the pack suddenly fall behind as they get involved in an intense conversation. You are only a few feet away — the group is so engrossed in their argument that they don’t even notice you approaching. One of the guys in the group suddenly stops and bends down to fiddle with something on his shoe. The people are still arguing — so much so that they don’t realize that their friend is no longer with them.

Choice 1: Immediately jump on the guy to satisfy your hunger.
Choice 2: Wait until the others are farther away before you attack.

Food: Keep your calories in the “green” every day this week!
Water: Drink 8 cups of water a day.
Cardio: 175 min/week (I recommend 35 min/day, 5 days a week)
Strength: 225 Cross Lunges (right lunge, left lunge = 1 rep)
Agility: 225 Double Leg Butt Kicks (Do one leg at a time if too hard)

Sorry I’ve been so slack about updating the challenge on Monday’s when I start them. I’ve been seriously busy! hardly have time to fit m y workouts in, and I’ll choose a workout over blogging most days, even though I really miss blogging when I do!
I have been loving this zombie challenge.  I’ve found it so motivating.  I will finally be updating my before and after photos the last week of March.  I feel soooo much better with all the running, strength/agility and paying closer attention to my calorie intake.
I finished “The Walking Dead” that was on netflicks so now I’m hoping they put the next season up soon! I do usually watch so  much TV alone and get into a series like that so I need to find a new series to watch while on the treadmill as I wont be running outside much for a while.  It is DEADLY icy.  I attempted a run a few days ago on paths that should be cleared by the city… no such luck, it was so icy I could hardly walk.  Home I went to the treadmill.
Any suggestions for netflicks TV series I should get into??  Right now we have the Canadian version.  Hoping to switch that soon.

Challenge #4

You back away from the figure in the doorway. Unfortunately, this proves to be a bad move. Something whizzes toward you in the darkness and you suddenly feel pain in your shoulder. You look down to see an arrow sticking out of you. The pain reignites your anger. You growl and launch yourself at the figure in the doorway. An arrow hurdles through the air by your head but you don’t even look back as it lodges into a huge box behind you. You are too focused on dessert. You fall forward onto your knees, grabbing the man and knocking him backward. He hits the wall behind him and you quickly sink your teeth into his shoulder.

After eating your fill, you stumble back out the door and onto the street. Your stomach is so full you can’t move much further. You collapse onto the black top and find yourself slipping into a sedated state. You close your eyes and allow yourself to fall back onto the street. Visions of glistening organs and blood dance through your head.

You aren’t sure how long you lay there in a comatose-like state. But scattered screams and voices suddenly bring you back to reality.

“Is it dead?” a young voice whispers.

“How would I know?” another girl hisses.

“Go touch it and find out, Andrea.”

“No!”

“Go ahead, I dare you.”

You snap your eyes open and sit up.

There are about four young teenage girls standing in a semi-circle around you. They scream and scatter when they realize you are alive.

You spring to your feet and start to give chase, your stomach rumbling in anticipation. It seems your appetite is never ending – you’ve got to have fresh meat now.

Two of the girls suddenly stop and turn to face you. You find yourself drooling – who knew these kids would be such an easy target? You continue running at full speed not even hesitating when you see the girl closest to you lift a large shiny machete. She swings the object at you, slicing off your arm in one swing. The impact knocks you to one knee, but only for a moment. You jump back up to your feet and start reaching toward the girls with your remaining arm. But it’s no use. They are already running again at full speed. You trip over an overturned trashcan as the girls turn and disappear down the block.

Your mind suddenly becomes so cloudy now that they are out of sight. What were you doing? Why are you here? You touch the bloody stump where your arm used to be. What happened to you?

You hear the grumble of a motor somewhere down the street followed by several excited shouts.

Choice 1: Go investigate the noises.
Choice 2: Stay where you are and wait for the noises to come to you.

Food: Keep your calories in the “green” every day this week!
Water: Drink 8 cups of water a day.
Cardio: 150 min/week (I recommend 30 min/day, 5 days a week)
Strength: 180 Chest Pushes (Use a bouncy ball, pillow or similar object)

Agility: 180 Split Jumps (Right lunge, left lunge = 1 rep Take out the jump and just do alternating lunges if needed)

So now on to week 2, Challenge #2

You inhale deeply and take a step toward the bathroom door. On instinct you snatch a bed pan from the swivel table beside the bed. You know you probably don’t need a weapon, and a bed pan probably wouldn’t do much damage anyway, but something just doesn’t feel right. The hairs on your arms stand straight up. Another shout echoes from inside the bathroom. Your hands shake as you slowly reach toward the door knob. You start to turn it – but suddenly the door bursts open on its own and a little old woman wearing a tattered hospital gown falls outward. You step backward and lunge reflexively, your pulse racing. The bed plan clangs against the tile floor.

“Help me!” Mrs. Grason gasps as she collapses on the ground.

You immediately forget your fear and reach down to pull the woman back to her feet. She is heavy and your biceps protest, but you manage to get her back into the hospital bed.

“What happened?” You ask as you reach over the old woman and press the call button to summon a nurse.

Mrs. Grason looks at you as if you are stupid. “ Isn’t it obvious? I had to go the bathroom! You wouldn’t wake up so I just did it on my own.” A savage cough rips through her entire body.

“I’m so sorry. I didn’t mean to fall asleep. I’ve just been so overworked.” You pick up the blankets from the floor and start to cover her up but she roughly pushes your hands away.

“No, I don’t want them. I’m too hot.” Her eyes narrow into mean slits. “And I don’t care if you’re sorry. I want to see my doctor immediately.”

You glance toward the door to her room, but no one is responding to your call. You press the button once again.

“ Didn’t you hear me?” Mrs. Grason is getting hysterical and her health looks like it’s taking a turn for the worse. The circles beneath her eyes seem darker and sweat drips profusely from her forehead. “I want my doctor now!”

“Ok, I’ll go get someone.” You start to run toward the door but Mrs. Grason suddenly starts gasping for breath. It all happens so quickly. One second she’s screaming at you, the next second she’s lying on the bed…lifeless.

Choice 1: Go to Mrs. Grason and check her pulse.

Choice 2: Run out into the hallway for help.

Food: Keep your calories in the “green” every day this week!

Water: Drink 8 cups of water a day (This is EVERY Day, you can’t make up days with water.)

Cardio: 125 minutes/week (I recommend 25 minutes a day/5 days a week)

Strength: 90 Crazy Eights (8 full curls, 8 upper curls and 8 lower curls = 1 rep. Rest in between sets as needed) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v-9T7I4H09I

Agility: 90 Curtsy Lunges

AND my total KM for last week came to: 25.26 which is about 4.74 kms less than I was hoping but what can you do! some days are harder than others and sometimes when I work 24 hours I literally don’t have time!

Zombies, always help me reach my goals.

I’m a huge zombie nerd right now.

I think I’ve said it before, but when I run at home I watch the Walking Dead.  I actually just started season 1 at the beginning of Jan and am almost done season 2 since I’m only allowed to watch it while I’m on the treadmill.  I have put a ton of KM in on the treadmill this January since Edmonton is SO COLD! today is -41 with the wind chill… HELLS no to running out side in that! the weird thing is it’s supposed to be -2 by Friday… wtf?  I know I’ve also mentioned that I use “Zombies! Run” which is an app that tracks your running and uses interval training by having zombies chase you throughout your run.  It also has a bit of a game at the end of your run but I don’t want to go into full detail of that I’m just proving how in with the zombs I am.

Anyways I use MyFitnessPal to help track calories and exercise as I am still aiming to lose at least 10lbs and MFP has tons of groups and challenges to help with that and guess what I found one that is Zombie themed! so pumped!

Here’s what it’s about.

zombies
Welcome to Zombie Outbreak!

an 8-week weight loss challenge where YOU get to choose the outcome of your story. The world is coming to an end. A viral outbreak is wreaking havoc on the world. There are rumours of a safe zone — but will you make it there in time? Or will you get bitten and have to join the living dead? The choice is yours.

Basic Rules:

1. The Goal! The goal of the game is to be the last group alive at the end of the challenge.

2. Group Cooperation.  There will be 4 teams: Team Emma, Team Stephen, Team Madison and Team Zombie. YES, one group gets to play the ZOMBIES! Each team will be assigned a character and will follow that character’s individual story line week to week.

3. Report Your Totals by Saturday 12 AM Pacific Standard Time! Sunday is a rest day

Here’s an example:

Weight Total: 140 Lbs
Food 6/6 Days
Water 6/6 Days
Cardio 80/100 Minutes
Strength Training 15/15 Pushups
Agility/Combat: 15/15 Hook Punches

4. Choose Your Own Adventure. Each character (team) will also be given a choose-your-own adventure option at the end of each week’s story. The choice with the highest number of votes dictates what story and challenge will be posted next.

5. Calling All Survivors! all results and the next storyline for each character’s will be posted sunday nights.

6. Choose Wisely. All story choices have consequences. You may even have to join the zombie team.

7. Check Your Team’s Message Board Daily. There may be surprise Apocalyptic Bonus Challenges thrown in once in awhile. If you complete the bonus challenge, you get an extra choose-your-own adventure vote!

8. Join the Zombie Team! If your team is instructed to join the zombie team, you must still complete your team’s current exercise challenge. However, you won’t have a choose-your-own adventure choice that week.

9. You’ve Been Eaten! If you fail to report totals two weeks in a row, we will assume that you have been eaten by a zombie and will sadly remove you from the challenge.

So that’s just the basics I’m VERY excited to start as I needed a new goal for February and this will challenge me to stay on top of all areas of my health and fitness!

Well I’m off to go put in some KM on the treadmill while watching the Walking dead.  Not feeling 100% today but I’ll see what I can manage, 29.48km to go…

What do you do when you decide to go to Vegas for 48 hours?

Beer Pong and hustle

I decided to be a sweetheart and plan a (semi) secret and (lastish) minute 48hour trip to Vegas for Ryan and I. So with the help of my Amazing friend Megan (who was really the reason this trip was possible -thanks for the Buddy passes) we figured out some dates that would work in the time frame we had.  I called Ryan’s work, told them to book 2 days of work off and was going to tell Ryan the night before we left, but had to tell him about a week before because of our rental property we’re fixing up.  Ryan was booking the carpet to be installed and I did not want him to do it when we were gone!

As soon as we arrived in Vegas we checked into the flamingo, downed 2 cold bud lights while changing clothes and headed out to play beer pong.  There weren’t a ton of people playing when we got there but 2 tables 8 guys total, so we bought our 2 jugs of beer and decided to play each other.

Beer Pong
A drinking game played at parties where everyone thinks they are the best at it.

Dude 1: Hey man I’ll play you in beer pong.
Dude 2: Why? I always kick your ass.
Dude 1: Wow! I never lose.

We usually play beer pong with 6 cups,  so when they gave us 10 each I was a little thrown off.  I was even more thrown off when Ryan poured his entire jug of beer into his 10 cups, but of course I did the same and then gave him a AYFK?M (are you F*@king Kidding Me) look.

Ryan killed me in the first round and if I had actually drank all my dranks i’d a been drunk.

I chugged my first 5 cups, then provided Ryan with the “I’m going to throw up in 30 minutes if this continues” look.  He told me to put my cups on the side and drink what I could and then we’d reuse the rest of the beer.

We were playing on the middle table, surrounded by 2 other tables of guys.  Half of these guys started cheering for me, 1 cheered for Ryan (of course announced he was not gay for doing so) and the others took off after their game finished.  Everyone kept telling Ryan “Nikki’s got this one” and giving me tips to make sure I sunk my pong balls.

All of a sudden it was very easy to not have to chase down any pong balls that slipped past me as all the guys were only to happy to help, and I was only to happy to let them help.

We set up for the second game, and played just 6 cups, since we had enough beer to cover that.  I’ll cut to the chase, I won the second game and Ryan beat me again in our last game against each other.

Finally, came the time to hustle!

We took on 2 of the guys who were only to happy to tells us they use to win tourneys back in their glorious college days.  They wanted to put money down, Ryan said sure, turned out to be only 10 big ones but whateves, money in my pocket is still money.

I’m not sure what Ryan was doing during this game.  If it was a nap or he spaced out but he needs to thank me for hustling those 2 drunk asses cause all of sudden they didn’t know what had hit them. Game over and we were all talking hockey, gas prices and weather and I had an extra 10 big ones in my pocket.
